WORLD-CLASS ENGINEERING. NOW WORLD-CLASS BRAND.
Sperre is a global leader in compressed air systems for the maritime industry – trusted by shipowners and operators worldwide. Their products were best in class. Their brand wasn't. We built one to match.
The Challenge
Sperre had built a world-leading reputation on the quality of their products and the dedication of their people. But their visual identity told a different story – generic, dated, and out of step with the ambition and precision that defined everything they made. In a global market where trust and credibility are everything, the gap between product and perception was costing them.
In 2021, as they prepared to reposition the business and rename from Sperre Industri to Sperre Air Power – shifting from product supplier to system supplier – the need to close that gap had never been more urgent.
THE SOLUTION
Working closely with Sperre's management team, and in alignment with the brand strategy developed by EGGS Design, we started with the concept. "It's personal" became the strategic foundation – capturing the passion and dedication that runs through everything Sperre does, from engineering to after-sales service.
Once the concept was defined, every decision followed. We evolved the logo from a generic mark to an ownable wordmark, modernised the symbol, and replaced the dated red and black palette with a more vibrant, distinctive colour system. A typeface with real personality replaced the generic choice, and the graphic language was built as a direct extension of the logo symbol – referencing the compression of air at the heart of Sperre's technology.
The concept didn't follow the design. The design followed the concept.
THE IMPACT
At launch, CEO Ole Nustad said: "Changing our name will not change how we operate, nor will it affect the great relationships we have with our customers and partners. On the contrary, we think this is only the beginning of something better."
Since the rebrand, Sperre Air Power has gone on to win the Schneider Electric Sustainability Impact Award 2024 – recognised among 450 companies for their holistic approach to sustainability in the maritime industry. A company that was always world-class now looks like it.
